WHAT IS HAPPENING?

MIDDLE MILL IS BEING BRUTALLY REDEVELOPED

Kingston University has submitted plans for a 30-metre, tower-scale brutalist brick building (its really ugly!) on the Middle Mill site. This is right beside our conservation area and the rare Hogsmill chalk stream. This development will re-shape our neighbourhood for generations, affecting light, wildlife, traffic, schools

The University is not being a good neighbour - this proposal is too tall, too intrusive, and too damaging to ignore.

Core Issues

* This will harm our protected neighbourhood

* It will damage the local environment and Hogsmill

* It will harm our local green space

* It will be a precedent for a "tower corridor" in our community

HARMING OUR PROTECTED NEIGHBOURHOOD

The proposed building is far bigger than anything around it and completely out of keeping with the neighbouring conservation area. This is a low-rise, historic part of Kingston with a strong sense of place. A development of this height would dominate the street, break the skyline, and permanently change how this area feels. Once something this big is allowed here, it becomes the new normal — and that precedent cannot be undone.

DAMAGING THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT

The Hogsmill is a rare chalk stream and one of the most important natural features in our area. It supports fragile river habitats and is a known route for kingfishers, bats and other wildlife that rely on darkness, quiet and an undisturbed river corridor. A large development built so close to the river brings increased lighting, noise, activity and shadow into a space that should be protected, not pressured. Once this environment is damaged, it cannot simply be put back.

OUR GREEN SPACE MATTERS

The Community Garden and Mill Street Green are loved, shared spaces that bring people together. They rely on sunlight, openness and calm. Overshadowing and the presence of a large building next door will change how these spaces feel and how they can be used. This is not spare land — it is part of the heart of our community.

PRECENDT TOWER CORRIDOR IN KT1

The University and Kingston Council will use this Tower to build more and higher buildings in our area. This will impact the whole community. It MUST be lowered
